Confessions Of A Broken Angel

Kate sighed as she looked at the clock. It was past nine o' clock and Zac was supposed to be home by now. He'd had to stay late at the studio to finish up some work, even though it was Christmas Eve. He'd promised to be back before late but it was now getting late and there was no sign of him yet.

"Dada?"

Kate heard and smiled as she looked down, seeing Shepherd standing beside her, rubbing his eyes. If Zac didn't get back soon then Shepherd would be asleep. He was already fighting it but she knew he would soon lose that battle.

"He's not home yet sweetie" she said bending down and picking him up, kissing his forehead as he laid his head on her shoulder, yawning.

"I think it's time to get you ready for bed" she said as she turned and headed up the stairs.

Shepherd lifted his head, shaking it "No, dada" he said pouting. He wanted to see Zac.

"Well maybe daddy will be home before you go to bed" she said hoping he would be.

Once Kate had changed Shepherd into his pajamas, she heard a car door outside and Shepherd grinned "Dada" he said looking over toward the window.

"Yeah, I think daddy is finally home" she smiled, picking Shepherd back up and carrying him downstairs, seeing Zac walking in the door.

Zac smiled as he looked up and saw Kate and Shepherd. "Hey sorry I'm late, I didn't realize I had so much to get finished down at the studio."

"It's ok, I'm just glad you're here now" Kate said as she smiled at him.

"Dada!" Shepherd grinned, reaching for Zac.

Zac smiled and took Shepherd from Kate, kissing his cheek. "I missed you baby boy. I missed you too Katie" he said kissing her lips lightly.

Shepherd yawned again and laid his head on Zac's shoulder, closing his eyes.

"I'll go put him to bed" Zac said and walked upstairs to Shepherds room, laying him down in his bed. He kissed his forehead and smiled "Goodnight Shep, daddy loves you" he said smiling at his son.

Shepherd smiled and yawned again, rubbing his eyes before closing them.

"He's out like a light" he laughed softly as he sat down beside Kate on the couch.

"I'm glad he got to see you before he went to sleep, he really wanted to see his daddy" she said kissing Zac's cheek and leaning into his side when he put his arm around her.

"I wanted to see him too but I hate I was working so late. I have the whole day off tomorrow though so I can be here with you two" he smiled.

Kate grinned "I'm glad, we really missed you" she told him.

"I miss both of you too, but I promise I'll be home for Christmas baby."
